Retailers, suppliers gather for NACDS' annual Marketplace

San Diego - June 13, 2003 - NACDS hosted more than 4,400 drug store executives at its annual Marketplace meeting in San Diego earlier this week. Those numbers reflect some 90 percent of the chain pharmacy industry with an annual buying power of roughly $325 billion.

Retail attendance was up versus last year with approximately 700 chain drug retail executives in attendance representing some 180 companies. Also, more than 800 vendor companies exhibited this year.

NACDS kicked off this year’s Marketplace with its second annual Meet the Market event, which paired retailers, large and small, with first-time suppliers and niche marketers in a series of rapid-fire, eight-minute meetings. In summary, 215 retailers and 300 suppliers participated in some 9,800 sessions on Saturday.

And Teen People’s Teen Trendspotters were on hand again to help drug store retailers capture that elusive teen shopper. This year’s Trendspotters Hot Picks included: Caboodles for best packaging, Yummi Bear multivitamins for best delivery, Bomb Factory Flowboard for best product innovation, Pepsi-Cola for best booth at the show, Fuji Q1 camera as best GM product, Pepsi Vanilla as best food/beverage, Candy Corner Lotta Luv lip gloss as best cosmetics line at the show, Color Smash temporary hair color as best hair care product, Ricola cranberry supplement drops as hottest health care item at the show and Xcellence Body Fizz Gel as best skin care product.
